These people can have offensive/ sexual names that are only slightly altered (which you can report), and clan names and descriptions that are completely inappropriate (which you cannot report to the best of my knowledge).įinally, it is estimated that about 1 in 20 accounts get stolen. My kids have all been severely warned about doing this, so it blows my mind parents would not talk with their kids about these dangers.Įven if you do set up your own clan, however, it will not stop your children from accessing offensive content. The kids (not ours) in our clan have no problem telling strangers how old they are and many have given out information such as what state they live in or their real names. If you are going to let your kids play, I recommend parents start their own clan (which is VERY time consuming) in order to further protect your kids and talk with them about Internet safety. We are listed as a family friendly clan-which means our chat is filtered-but it is relatively easy to get around this. We had to change it to "invite only" because people were joining and propositioning them in chat. Our clan happens to contain a lot of young girls (under 18). (You cannot do leagues, and you will never get the maximum in Clan games.) You can change your clan to "Invite only" or "Closed," but then you will have trouble reaching the required number of players (15) that you need to participate in all the events fully. If you report a message, it takes two days for them to respond to it, and the message will not be deleted until it naturally flows out of clan chat. Clash of Clans does not allow clan leaders or anyone else to delete offensive messages.
It's cartoon style and lack of graphic violence may make people think the game is for those younger than the 13+ rating, but in fact the real danger comes from the chat system and the insecurity of accounts.įirst, when you join a clan, you are instantly allowed access to clan chat. There are some serious issues that parents need to be aware of with this game.
